Dear Parents and Community,
Welcome to the 12-13 school year. This is the time of the year that we start to crank up the energy and motivate a new group of students to meet the expectations at BHS. Our school has a tremendous record of success and achievement. This has been accomplished through the hard work of our students, staff and parents. The great support of our community has also played a large role in the success of our little school.
We are coming off another very successful year. Our test scores remain very solid and we continue to achieve our goals during some very trying times. Our graduation rate remains one of the highest in the state. Almost 70% of our student body participates in some form of activity in the school and 59% are on our honor roll. Senior Projects once again had a tremendous year. We were able to raise over $19,000 for different groups and organizations. Over the last five years we have raised over $76,000 and helped over 100 different organizations.
BHS also had another terrific year in sports. We won the RVC All Sports Trophy which goes to the school with the best winning record for all sports combined. This is the 4th year in a row and 6 of the last 8 that BHS has won this honor. We won conference titles in Girls Basketball, (two in a row), Wrestling, and Boys track. We came in second in five other sports. The Football team qualified for the playoffs for the 21st year in a row and made it all the way to the level four game. We also had three people qualify for state in Track.
The High School has experienced several years of increased success rates in many areas. Although we remain very strong academically, we are working on methods to take the next step to a higher level of success. We will be implementing new intervention plans and behavioral plans to help take this next step. This system known as RTI will helps us identify student weaknesses and develop strategies to address these areas. We will also continue to stress the “Five P’s of Expectation.” This is a proactive approach that stresses prompt, positive, polite, prepared, and productive. By stressing these expectations to students we hope they will graduate as better citizens and people. Although education continues to get beat up in the media, we will continue to grow and change with this ever changing scenery. Although we have limited resources, we will continue to attempt to keep up with technology, explore new educational strategies, and maintain high expectation for our students.
*** Please remember that there is a freshmen orientation on August 14 at 6:00-pick up schedules, student handbooks, 6:30 parent meeting and a Co curricular meeting at 7:30. I would like to see all freshmen at the orientation; many things will be covered that they will need to know for the school year.
As always, yours in education,
Leonard Lueck
