From the Superintendent's Desk

Welcome Back for the 2021-22 School Year

I am excited to write my first welcome back message as the new Superintendent of the Brodhead School District after 19 years as the Principal of Ronald R. Albrecht Elementary. I appreciate all the good luck messages and well wishes from teachers, staff, parents, and community members. I will greatly miss being at the Elementary School every day, but I look forward to the opportunity to serve our schools in my new capacity. I am honored to serve the Brodhead School District in my new role.

It's safe to say that last year was one of the toughest years in our District’s history. COVID-19 had such a drastic effect on our schools, but we managed to keep our students in school, face-to-face, the vast majority of the time. We can thank our School Board, Administration, staff, and families for working together and making things work in the best possible way under the circumstances.

That brings us to our upcoming school year. We are cautiously optimistic that we will be closer to a normal school year as COVID-19 vaccinations are up in our community and in Green and Rock Counties. Our School Board made the decision on June 9 to end the mask requirement on school grounds. This included our June Summer School session, which served nearly 500 of our District’s students. We monitored our students’ health and safety throughout Summer School and will continue discussing COVID-19 issues during our July and August Board Meetings. Regular updates will be sent out to communicate and update our parents leading up to the start of the school year.

Our District is continuing the transition to Target-Based Learning this school year and have a representative group across all three District schools meeting over the summer to continue developing and progressing together as a District. This school year, each teacher will be teaching at least one class using the concept of Target-Based Learning. We believe that through the use of Target-Based Learning we will continue to see measurable growth in student achievement.

I would like to extend a big thank you to all parents who completed the survey we sent out in the spring. We welcome and appreciate parent input as a valuable part of our goal-setting process. We have three “Priority Areas” (Student Achievement, Service (families), and People (school staff) as part of our short- and long-term planning process. We will use this information when setting our goals and finding ways to constantly improve our school system.

On behalf of the Brodhead School District, I want to thank you in advance for all that you do to help make our District successful. We look forward to working with you throughout the 2021-22 academic year to ensure the success of all of our students. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have throughout the year. My email is [email protected] and my office phone number is (608) 897-2141. Best wishes for an outstanding school year! GO CARDS!
