Raptor Visitor Management System
Visitor Management & School Safety
Brodhead School District has fully implemented the Raptor Visitor Management System. Raptor permanently replaces paper sign-in and allows BSD to strengthen campus safety for students and staff by efficiently and effectively checking in all visitors and providing immediate alerts. This advanced system allows school site staff to screen visitors, parents, and anyone wishing to enter our campuses, ensuring we know who is entering our buildings at all times.
By quickly identifying potential safety risks, the Raptor system will help us create a safer, more secure learning environment for everyone.

What is the Raptor System and how does it work?
Raptor is a visitor management system that enhances school security by reading a visitor's driver’s license (or other approved government-issued ID), comparing information against a sex offender database, and notifying school administrators if an alert is triggered.
Once cleared through the system, a visitor badge is printed and includes a photo, name of the visitor, date and time, and destination, enabling District personnel to quickly determine if visitors are in areas where they should, or should not be. The Raptor system is designed to replace paper sign-in permanently.
Who needs to be scanned into the Raptor System?
All individuals – volunteers, guests, visitors – who are not Brodhead School District employees/students and wish to enter the campus during school hours. (7:30am to 3:30pm)
Why is Brodhead School District using the Raptor System?
The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. Raptor will provide a consistent, standardized system to track visitors and volunteers. This is especially useful during emergencies to know who is on campus. Raptor will provide a consistent system to track our visitors and volunteers in the building while making it immediately clear to staff members who belongs and who does not. Because the visitor’s badge includes the individual’s photo, date, and destination, it’s easier for staff members to recognize visitors and their purpose for being in the building. By proactively alerting personnel to certain potential threats, Raptor allows school administrators to take appropriate steps to keep our students, employees, and visitors safe.
Does the District/school have the right to require visitors, even parents, to produce an ID before entering the school?
Yes. Wisconsin school districts have the authority to implement visitor ID requirements before entering school buildings as part of their safety protocols to ensure only authorized individuals are present on campus.
Our school officials must know who is in the building and why they are there, particularly when a student is involved (e.g. early pickup). School officials need to be able to confirm that an individual has the authority to have access to the student. In addition to requiring visitors to give their name and purpose for visiting, it also requires visitors to present proof of identity.
What types of IDs will work in the Raptor System?
Raptor can scan all U.S. government-issued licenses, identification cards, concealed handgun licenses, Matrícula consular ID cards, permanent resident cards, active military cards, and passport ID cards (not the full passport). Any ID not indicated above will be manually entered by staff.
What does a visitor do if he/she doesn't have a government-issued ID?
Visitors without a government-issued ID will be required to produce a form of photo identification before entering our campus.
What information is the school district taking from the driver's license or other IDs?
Raptor is only scanning the visitor’s name, date of birth, photo, and the last four digits of their ID card for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders and any private alerts at the school, such as restraining/custody orders. Additional personal data will not be gathered and no data will be shared with any outside company or organization.
What is the checkout process for visitors leaving the building?
Visits are required to check out at the office reception desk.
What is the protocol if a "hit" occurs on the system?
The staff member scanning the I.D. will immediately contact an administrator. Building administrators and law enforcement personnel will take appropriate steps to keep the building safe.
Does everyone entering the office need to present an ID?
If visitors are not leaving the office area, they do not need to present an ID. For example, a family member is simply dropping off lunch for their student. In that case, there is no need to present an ID.
